Fans at F.I.R.’s upcoming concert at Bukit Jalil can expect some pleasant surprises.

TAIWANESE alternative pop rock band F.I.R. promised to rock the stage and surprise fans with an entertaining show at their concert in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, next month.

Following their sell-out concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, a 10,000-strong crowd is expected at their upcoming Malaysian show.

Made up of vocalist Faye Zhan Wen Ting, guitarist Real Huang Han Qing and producer/keyboardist Ian Chen Jian Ning, F.I.R (known as Fei Er Yue Tuan in Mandarin) are currently among the hottest bands in South-East Asia.

At a recent press conference in Kuala Lumpur to promote the Malaysian leg of their concert tour, the pop trio , which had written some new songs especially for its Singaporean fans is set to do the same for its Malaysian fans.

“We will be writing a new Malay song especially for our fans in Malaysia,” said Huang. “And we’ll invite Michael Wong and Victor Wong to pen the lyrics,” added Chen.

When asked to speak a few words of Malay, Zhan surprised the media with, “Aku cinta padamu (I love you)!”

Huang said the concert was more than just performing their songs. “To us, a concert is an opportunity for us to interact with our fans.”

The group made the first stop of their world tour in Taipei last year with a concert theme of Tenth Planet, derived from a track from their latest album Love Diva, delighting concert-goers with a dreamscape which involved countless costume changes made possible with the help of over 100 crew members.

Pretty vocalist Zhan professed a liking for the costumes which went with the concert theme, a mix of genres including rock and folk. She even has one costume change which takes place on the stage itself. “Mine takes only three seconds to change into,” said Zhan with a laugh.

Producer Chen revealed there were about 50 costume changes and they barely had time for a breather in between. “Many times, we would be changing while walking backstage with the help of the crew.”

F.I.R. was formed in 2002 when Chen, 36, recruited Huang, 28, and Zhan, 26. The two respectfully refer to him as lao shi (teacher).

Bursting onto the Mandopop music scene with their hit song Lydia which was the closing theme for season one of the popular Taiwanese TV series The Outsiders, the trio only made their debut in 2004.

They have since released four studio albums (F.I.R Fairyland in Reality, Unlimited, Flight Tribe and Love Diva), two mini-albums (I Wanna Fly and Glory Days) and a single (Spread Love)

The name of the band F.I.R. is made up of the initials of their names Faye, Ian and Real and is also the acronym for Fairyland in Reality, the name of their eponymous debut album.

Popularly known as Zhang Dong Liang, the 26-year-old Malaysian singer isn’t planning a change in his profession, just a change in his repertoire and maybe image, as well.

The singer many call a “goody-two-shoes” will be putting on some dancing shoes when he takes to the stage for his maiden concert “From Now On Live in Singapore” to be held on 31st May.

Since stepping onto the entertainment scene after winning a talent quest in 2002, the “Prince of Ballad” has been noted for his singing abilities rather than dancing.

But he is eager to give his fans something different when they turn up at the Suntec Convention Hall.

“I want my Singaporean fans to know that there can be another side of me which can be fun. So I had a discussion with the management and we decided to include these acts,” Nicholas enthusiastically announced to the media when in Singapore recently.

Although the singer has had no prior dancing background and is still nursing an injury sustained during a concert in Indonesia, he is determined not to let anything get into the way of his performance.

“The initial stages were hard as I had to start from scratch to master the basic moves. Even after getting the steps right, my instructor commented that I looked dead-panned when dancing”, he laughed.

Will all the training pay off? It seems most likely, especially for Nicholas’ female fans.

“I will drench myself and then remove my shirt,” he cheekily teased the media when pressed for details of his show.

But as expected, the entertainer best loved for being the-boy-next-door, quickly added that there won’t be too much for parents to worry about since he has taken into account the negative feedback from his concert in Taiwan where his sexy routine with a female dancer wasn’t entirely well-received.

After all, Nicholas may have his heart set somewhere else, such as with Taiwanese singer Cyndi Wang, his co-star in the idol drama Smiling Pasta.

But surprisingly, the young lady whom he’s been romantically linked to isn’t the special guest on his show, as widely rumoured.

Nicholas revealed that Faye Zhan, vocalist of popular Taiwanese pop-rock band Fairyland in Reality (F.I.R.), will instead be making an appearance.

Malaysian singer Nicholas Teo sheds his ‘Prince of ballads’ image to take on a more challenging role of dancing for his concert tour. Did you know that the ‘Prince’ was a flop at dancing’

Malaysian singer Nicholas Teo is holding his first concert tour and Singapore is his third stop, following Kuala Lumpur and Indonesia. His concert was also how he envisioned it to be. While he wants to do his best, he does not want to rush it all at once.

‘If I perform too much stuff like drumming or playing the piano, then the concert will look more like a circus instead,’ explained Nicholas.

Evidently, the pressure is on him as he even compared himself to established concert performers like Jay Chou and Wang Lee Hom.

‘They are originally talented, but I’m not,’ said Nicholas. ‘I need time to learn all these and I wish to take my time.’

Alright, fans would just have to be contented with his groovy new dance moves. True to his words, the prince did need plenty of time to learn, admitting that he faced lots of difficulties when learning the moves, as he started from scratch.

‘When I first started, it was terrible, everything I did was wrong!’ said Nicholas. ‘Thank goodness that my instructor was a patient person!’

Yet, just he started to get his moves right, his expression was wrong. In fact, there was no expression on his face, just like a dead fish! He was concentrating so hard on his steps that he totally forgot about his expression!

‘So my instructor advised me to imagine that I was sitting in a pub and listening to music and let my emotions flow,’ laughed Nicholas. ‘I’m much better now though.’

Indeed, he has since improved. In fact, his fans and the media from KL praised his dancing and even said he was ‘good-looking’ when he danced.

‘Wow! My confidence went up a notch after that!’ said Nicholas.

Now that he has conquered the dance moves, would he be moving on to a sexier route, such as ripping off his shirts’

Much as he entertained the idea, the prince said that he would not do it as he had to be considerate of some of his fans, who are as young as three. Thus, he had to maintain a ‘parental guidance’ standard.

Nicholas also revealed that he once did perform a sexy dance in Taiwan, cuddling up to his female dancers on stage but his fans did not take too well to his performance, so he decided to scrap the idea.

Apparently, there were fans from Japan, Korea and Hong Kong who flew all the way to KL to attend his concert. Not to disappoint his fans, he sang in five different languages other than Mandarin ‘ Korean, Japanese, Indonesian, English and Cantonese. In an interview, the prince said that he memorized the words of the songs by writing down the pronunciations. To him, it was akin to doing his homework, but no matter how tough, he carried on as he felt responsible to his fans.

‘They flew to attend my concert, and this is the least I could do to express my gratitude to them,’ said Nicholas. ‘When I sang in Japanese, my fans from Japan started crying. Just the song itself made them felt that their trip was worthwhile.’

Having been in the entertainment scene for five years, we asked what his biggest change was. Other than having clearer goals, Nicholas said that the biggest change in him was that he has become a better listener.

‘I used to be a talkative person and I would tend to dominate the conversation whenever I am with my friends,’ he said. ‘However, now my job requires me to talk non-stop such as the case in press conferences and interviews, I hardly talk anymore.’

The singer, who is currently based in Taiwan, admits that he still unconsciously adds some ‘local flavour’ into his speech when conversing with the Taiwanese.

‘Sometimes, I would forget and say words like ‘alamak’ and ’sekali’ when I’m speaking to them,’ admitted Nicholas. ‘But I would make an effort to tune my speech to the Taiwanese version.’

‘But the moment I come back to Malaysia and Singapore, I become more relaxed and so does my speech. It will become a mixed version of Mandarin, with English and Malay popping up once in a while,’ laughed Nicholas.

KUALA LUMPUR: He may be making waves in Taiwan right now, but for singer Gary Chaw Ge, he only had one destination in mind for his first-ever major solo concert – Malaysia.

The 29-year Sabah-born Chaw will kick off his upcoming five-stop Gary Chaw Asia Live 2008 concert tour at the Putra Indoor Stadium in Bukit Jalil on June 28, with the remaining stops being Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China.

Announcing the news during a video conference from Taipei yesterday, Chaw said that there was never a doubt in his mind that his debut concert would be anywhere else but Malaysia, despite the fact that many of his peers had opted to hold their solo concerts either in Hong Kong or Taipei first.

“I’m a Malaysian, and it’s always been my dream to hold my debut concert in Malaysia. To me, it doesn’t make sense to hold the concert anywhere else,” he said.

Although he was reluctant to reveal details about the concert, he did say that it would be produced by a top producer from Hong Kong and would also feature a guest artiste performance.

Chaw released his debut album Blue in 2006, and has since proven to be one of the most popular Malaysian male artistes based overseas, releasing two more albums including his latest, Super Sunshine earlier this year.

Last year, he was chosen to perform in a show commemorating the tenth anniversary return of Hong Kong to China, the only Malaysian to perform at the show.

Nicholas wows fans in concert

KUALA LUMPUR: Nicholas Teo wowed a 9,000-strong audience in his debut concert on home soil on Saturday night.

He started off with a succession of fast dance numbers beginning with the concert theme song, which marked his first try at dance music.

Local songwriter Chen Ying Jian specially composed the retro pop electronic dance number Xin Ge Shi Chang (Try Singing a New Song) for the concert.

Teo, 26, who is said to have lost 5kg while preparing for the concert – held at the indoor arena of Stadium Putra, National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil – even danced while singing the fast numbers, which was a new experience for him.

His fans, friends and family came from Britain, South Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore to watch the concert.

Apart from rendering his usual crowd-pleasing Mandarin numbers which had fans singing along, Teo also won them over with Korean, Japanese, Cantonese, English and Malay numbers.

His guest artiste was popular fellow Taiwan-based Malaysian singer Fish Leong, also known as the Queen of Love Ballads.

Nicholas Teo From Now On Concert 2008 blasted off with his new song ‘Xin Ge Shi Zhang’. A theme song for his debut paid concert. The dancers lead by Nan Pok (a famous dance instructor from Taiwan) started the show with gimmick of superstar going to appear soon. Though Nicholas has given his best on the dancing skill but he in fact needs to practice a lot. He’s really look like an amateur among all the male dancers. When he appeared on the stage, my first thought was ‘He’s so thin. Must be working hard & stress a lot for this concert’. The beginning of the show has few hiccups like the mic not functioning well and music is louder than Nic’s singing.

During his concert, he showed off his multilingual skill. He sang in English – Fly Me to the Moon & Greatest Love of All – a duet with Fish Leong (needs a lot of pronunciation practice. Some words were not properly pronounced). He also sang in Japanese, Korean and Malay. He has a few numbers of cover versions eg: Only One is a Japanese song from SMAP which he sang in Mandarin. When he sang the song, he blended nicely with Mandarin and Japanese.

The same went to the song Dream (a Korean song) – he sang half Mandarin & Japanese & finally Heart (a Malay song) – sang half in Mandarin & Malay. He also sang a cross over between his own song ‘Wang Zi Ai Guo’ and Eason Chen’s ‘Gu Duk Tam Go’. The crossover was nicely arranged. The duet with Fish Leong on In Love with You showed his weakness on weak vocal compare to Fish. Fish’s vocal is so amazing and the song carry well with her great voice. Then Fish had her solo and she sang ‘Zhung Bai’. Once again, I was truly amazed with her voice plus the music arrangement nicely blends in with her vocal.

He talked less in his concert and the only segment he talked a lot that when it’s time for him to thank all the people that has been working, leading and helping him along the way. First of all, he thanked to the media that built a platform for him to share his passion of singing. Still remember he was from the Astro Talent Quest? His winning song ‘Huang Hun’ made him popular and everyone loves the song because of him. So when he sang that song, there was video clip from the competition played on the screen. The video clip brought back a lot of memory to his fans & people that been working with him at that time. Later he sang the song ‘Fu Zhu’ – his first recording song for his EP. This song brought back my memory when I was with Music Street. Everyone in the company busy preparing for the album launch, from visiting media, getting a press conference venue and also making sure the EP was released on time. During the song, there were slides of his photos during that time. Those faces were so familiar to me. Then indefinitely he has to thank his family for being so supportive & bear with his lack of time being by their side. That’s when he sang the most touching song ‘Ba Ba Ma Ma’. The screen featured slide of his photos from kid days.

The most highlight moment when he said everyone has to sing this song with him & that will be the ending song for the night. As everyone in the stadium predicted, it was none other than ‘Dang Ni Gu Dan Ni Hui Xiang Chi Sui’. I’ve recorded the whole scenario & song for memory. Everyone in the stadium was so cooperative. I guess everyone sang the song except me coz I wanted to capture the moment (the full length live video can be viewed in this video segment).

I think this concert is a success. Credit to all the people that been working hard on this concert. People that turned up for the concert were definitely his family members, his friends (esp from Kuching), lyricists & musicians, his ex-colleagues from Music Street, bosses from oversea, sponsors – current sponsors & also past sponsors, friends from entertainment field and last but not least his fans. His fans were came from around the Asia region – Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Korea and also from United Kingdom (don’t know how true is this). Everyone just wanna be there to show their support. After all, Nicholas has been nice to everyone. He’s easy going & always giving his best to anything.

I like his concert costumes very much. His costumes were so nicely design & with a lot of bling bling to add in effect when lighting shines on it. The stage was simple but yet presentable. Nothing too complicated. Everything is just nice coz after all the fans were there to see his great live performance.

candidly during the celebration banquet that his chest felt somewhat tight
and perhaps it was caused by his mood being extremely high during the event.
He said：“My whole being seems a little not right. Maybe it's due to the

Kuala Lumpur: There has been rumours circulating that SETTV will be gathering the original cast to film Smile Pasta Sequel starting next month. However, according to report, it is still currently being arranged and discussed. The reason is that male lead, Nicholas Teo has not offered free slots in
his schedule.

The reporter seeks confirmation from Nicholas' manager, Li Shu-Ting and she admitted. SETTV informed in February that they have the intention of filming 《Smile Pasta》Sequel. Basically, they would like Nicholas to take part.

According to the Taiwanese media, if Angela is unable to fulfil her schedule in April, she will lose millions of dollars that was forthcoming.

The day before, Angela called Linfair Records (her record company) Director, Wu Yifen to inform her about the check-up results. She expressed that she had been diagnosed with heart mitral valve prolapse and the doctors have suggested that she should go for an operation.

Kuala Lumpur: For the purpose of holding his first ticket-sale concert, Nicholas Teo withstands the pain of declining chances for other public performances. This resulted him in losing few hundred thousand Malaysian dollars.

Following his appearance at last week's 《From Now On Live in Malaysia Concert》poster-signing session afterwards, Nicholas has flown to Taiwan to focus intensely on concert rehearsal work. He placed much importance on the upcoming event and not only has Nicholas complied with notable dance instructor Lan Bo for training, he also previously rejected 4 to 5 invitations for performances.

According to the concert agreement, it was forbidden to participate in any form of public performance within 3 months before the event. Thus, ever since last year's December 31st Countdown appearance, there was no public performance delivered after that. Furthermore, at least 5 events were being
dropped from the beginning of this year onwards and also a series of charity performances at Johore Bahru, Penang, Kuala Lumpur and East Malaysia. In response to queries, manager Li Shu-Ting revealed that the requirement of "shutting himself up" for 3 months, Nicholas has lost an approximate few
hundred thousands' amount of earnings.

Nevertheless, the concert will be held on March 29th at Bukit Jalil Indoor Stadium. Nicholas, who had gone to Taiwan on Monday, had completed practising the dance moves for the concert sequence in the matter of a short 4 to 5 days and achieved elegant results. Other than such as well as ordering outfits, he is currently busy with shooting music videos for 《New Songs+Compilation》album.

Kuala Lumpur: Nicholas Teo is officially "shutting himself up" for coming 《FROM NOW ON Live in Malaysia Concert》but news spread that the producer of the event has been changed. Manager Li Shu-Ting confirmed its validity and expressed, "Nicholas heading to Taiwan and shutting himself up to practise dancing was for the purpose of communicating with new Hong Kong producer."

《Nicholas Teo FROM NOW ON Live in Malaysia Concert》preparation stage can be said to be "One Unexpected Turn of Events, Three Folds". Firstly, it was the sponsor having internal investment policy changes and pulled out the fund temporarily. This let concert production team to "experience the horse turning over while the rider relies on it". Following the incident, Warner Music Malaysia took over the organising rights. Recently, Taiwan EMI encountered surprising staff split and caused the plans of releasing 《New Songs+Selection》record to change. "Right now, Malaysia and Singapore will first release the album in CD formats after March 20th. As for Taiwan, it will only be in April."

Original Producer Admitted to Hospital for Operation

At the time when it seemed all problems have been solved, a new one came up. "Nicholas' concert originally had a Taiwan producer who had worked on those of Wu Bai, Mayday, Chen Qi Zhen, Zhang Zhen Yue, Fish Leong and others. Since their events fall closely under the same category as his, we decided to collaborate with him. After Nicholas and this producer have gotten to know each other well and both had created some sparks, a situation beyond our expectations appeared."

It is actually the said producer discovered having tumour in his body and needs to be admitted to hospital for an operation. "Much matters have progressed halfway and we have come up with lots of ideas for the concert together. Still, we were notified two days ago that the person has to undergo an operation in the middle of March. Although this producer could fly over to Malaysia after that to put in effort for the concert, we hope that he could consider his health with importance and advised him to rest."

To date the concert will have another producer who has taken charge of Faye Wong, Sandy Lam and Miriam Yeung's concerts. "Nicholas has never met him. Apart from shutting up, this time going to Taiwan requires him to diligently exercise, practise dancing, ordering outfits and also communicate effectively with the new producer."

She expressed that Nicholas will only return to Malaysia after the 20th of this month and rehearse with Mac Chew and the music band he leads. "The concert will have a different theme and so he has to perform a different dance. He has already accepted the 'truth'. At present, he just wants to handle everything whole-heartedly and put on an outstanding performance on the 29th."

It was revealed a few days ago that Sam Wang ShaoWei (of 5566 and 183Club), once described by bandmate Tony Sun XieZhi as being a tremendous ladies' man and charmer, attempted to "electrify" 梁又琳 Liang YouLin. The two of them worked together on CTS' Your Home Is My Home and immediately hit it off. Those present at filming observed that Wang ShaoWei employed three main techniques for picking up girls.

Only Met On the Day of Filming

Liang YouLin ended her 9-year relationship in November of last year (2007) and has been waiting earnestly for new love. A few days ago, she filmed a scene from Your Home Is My Home; her character, along with ShaoWei's, set up a stall to sell red bean cakes (紅豆餅 hong duo bing). And ShaoWei did not lose to his own scripted role of "Famous Lover,"* either, flirting off-camera as well.
* Translator's Note: This just means that his character in Your Home Is My Home is probably a bit of a playboy and a charmer.

When it comes to electrifying and chasing girls, Wang ShaoWei can indeed be deemed an old expert. Bandmate Tony Sun XieZhi once summed up his flirting abilities and success rate in this remarkable way: "If all the women in this world loved only Wu Zun and Takeshi Kaneshiro, Wang ShaoWei would still be in third place." Those present at filming explained that, in teasing Liang YouLin, Wang ShaoWei used three main techniques. The first technique is to engage a girl in easy conversation; according to our sources, the two spoke for the first time on the day of filming. However, almost immediately, they began conversing enthusiastically and non-stop, hitting it off right away.

Agency Is Not Surprised

His second method is to use playful "games" to become closer to a girl: for example, although the red bean cakes had already gone bad and were beginning to smell, ShaoWei and Liang YouLin still began to "play" on set. Even after the take was finished, they were still smearing each other's faces with butter; the "Cut!" of the Director had no effect on them. The third method is to capture a beautiful woman through the lens: as Liang YouLin rehearsed her scenes, ShaoWei used the cameraman's camera to secretly film her. He even showed the footage to her afterwards, thus increasing the amount of contact the two could have. However, ShaoWei insisted yesterday, "I was only practicing how to use a camera lens-- that's all!"

Liang YouLin's agency had this to say in explanation: "They're young, you know, so of course it's very easy to become familiar with each other." To the charge that Liang YouLin was only contracted to work on the drama for a few days and that the time they had to spend together was insufficient (for such familiarity), ShaoWei's manager Li ShiXiang said, "Everyone's an entertainer... so there's naturally a lot they can talk about. Don't make a big deal out of nothing."

ShaoWei is known to be kind of an "underground" ladies' man... he's always careful to be really considerate, and he knows how to act really naturally with women. He teases a bit, but is never really too over the top. So I guess I wouldn't be surprised if he WERE trying to flirt with her.

However, I'm NOT convinced that this article can really be trusted 100%... simply because Liang YouLin and ShaoWei definitely met each other before this drama... she also played a small part in E Nu Ah Chu and promoted that drama together with him on a few variety shows. It might have been the first time the pair actually talked to each other, but it's a bit of an exaggeration to say that it's the first time they've met
